It finally has started to feel like spring in NC. Although the wayfarers, croakies, and boat shoes are worn here year round, it felt like a real spring day. With the Red Sox starting off their season in good shape, and CC Sabathia absolutely sucking for the Yankees, all is well. People around campus have begun to drive with their sunroofs open and tops down, each blasting a variety of music from Taylor Swift to Jay-Z. As I was driving I found a few songs on the spring playlist that make for a great day. When you are driving around in the spring with your windows down and volume up, these are a few pieces involving Kid Cudi that make for a smooth ride. I have put them in order of preference, the top one being my favorite…enjoy

Day ‘N’ Night (Crookers Remix) – Kid Cudi

Dat New New (VIKING Remix) – Kid Cudi

I Poke Her Face – Kid Cudi ft. Kanye West and Common

Rollin (Remix) – Kid Cudi

For this song below wait for the verse at 1:47…WELL worth it
Welcome To The World – Kevin Rudolf ft. Kid Cudi

The Prayer – Kid Cudi

Dwayne Michael Carter Jr. What else is there to say about this man that he does not say for himself? One of the most famous rappers nowadays, if not the most famous rapper of the year, started his career when he dropped out of school at age 14. Good thing he learned how to rap when somehow his major influence in music as a kid was Nirvana. Wayne has always been an avid sports fan as he writes a blog for ESPN and is proud to admit his favorite teams are the Boston Bruins and the Boston Red Sox. It seems that every new song released contains a verse from Weezy, and for many seeing his name attached to a song makes it that much better. I don’t know what it is about his raspy lil voice or his “boss” attitude at a staggering 5’6″, but Lil Wayne gets the job done. For the haters of Lil Wayne just listen to how ridiculous his lyrics are, ponder his prior addiction to “purple drank”, and laugh it off because you are seriously outnumbered. Here are a few songs where a simply dash of Weezy into the recipe makes them instant ear candy…ENJOY

Prom Queen (Russ Castella Remix) – Lil’ Wayne

Viva La Milli (Terry Urban Remix) – Lil’ Wayne and Coldplay

A Milli (DJDT Remix) – Lil’ Wayne

Thinking Of What It’s Worth – Lil’ Wayne and Buffalo Springfield

Got Money (Alan Astor Remix) – Lil’ Wayne and T-Pain

Love Like This (Remix) – Lil’ Wayne and Natasha Bedingfield

Not Gonna Teach Him (The Twelves Kickmix) – Black Kids and Lil’ Wayne

We Are From Venice Lollipop – The Bloody Beetroots and Lil’ Wayne

On May 1st both Lupe Fiasco and Girl Talk will be making an appearance at Elon University’s campus for the Spring Concert. Having never performed together the concert is bound to be original and the mixture of hip-hop and electronic beats could be unreal, especially with a light show. For a man who runs his concerts off a computer, Greg Gillis aka Girl Talk is consistently able to get the crowd into his performances with his unreal mash-up skills, although many consider him a lawsuit waiting to happen. Along with Girl Talk is Lupe Fiasco, who I am sure many have seen at the past years Glow in the Dark Tour with NERD and Kanye. Lupe is a Grammy winning hip-hop artist and with a mash-up artist behind him the concert is bound to be wild. Here are some of the better songs from both artists in my point of view…enjoy

Once Again – Girl Talk

Bounce That – Girl Talk

Ask About Me – Girl Talk

Give and Go – Girl Talk

Go Go Gadget Flow – Lupe Fiasco

Superstar – Lupe Fiasco ft. Matthew Santos

Streets on Fire – Lupe Fiasco

Hip-Hop Saved My Life – Lupe Fiasco ft. Nikki Jean

Who ever would have thought Lady Gaga attended a Catholic high school called “Sacred Heart” after hearing her lyrics illustrating “disco sticks”, “heavy touchin”, and “love games”? Lady Gaga entered the scene as an “innocent” 19 year old when she signed with Def Jam Records. She was a songwriter for artists such as: The Pussycat Dolls, Fergie, and Britney Spears. Lady Gaga’s music style is unique in that she wanted to mix retro dance beats with urban melodies, a pop chorus and still hold that rock-star edge. She recently performed in Boston, MA on March 30th and brought both energy and sexuality to the crowd. After hearing a few of her hits and being turned to some mixes I have decided to post some mixes I believe deserve attention. Enjoy…and for every guy out there who is ashamed when a Lady Gaga song goes on chug your favorite beverage and just rage because your bound to like.

Single with WALE: *****
Chillin’ – Wale ft. Lady GaGa

Dance Dreams – Lady GaGa vs. Eurythmics (Divide and Create Remix)

Just Dance (The Starters Remix) – Lady GaGa

Poker Face (Automatic Panic vs. DJ Cat NYC Remix) – Lady GaGa

Poker Face (Messkid Late Night Remix) – Lady GaGa

Although Kanye struggles personality wise, some of the remixes to “Love Lockdown” are poppin. Whether out at a club, bar, or even your room the remixes will blow your mind. After he premiered the song at the 2008 MTV music awards, sporting some form of a mullet, the song caught on and swept the country. The electronic pop jam had been edited by many of the worlds top DJ’s, and the mix of synths and hip hop beats provides for an entertaining and original experience. After sorting through numerous edits I have decided to post some of the best. Along with a few of the “Love Lockdown mixes I have thrown in some other Kanye West mixes which are bound to impress.

Love Lockdown (T-Minus 321 Remix) – Kanye West

Love Lockdown (Jake Troth Remix) – Kanye West

Love Lockdown (Tom Wrecks Remix) – Kanye West

Reckoner Lockdown (DJ Earworm Remix) – Kanye West vs. Radiohead

Heartless (Robin Da Hood Remix) – Kanye West

Electric Touch – Kanye West vs. MGMT

Cant Stop Getting High – Kanye West vs. Red Hot Chilli Peppers & DJ Fashen

Diamonds – Ratatat ft. Kanye West

Swagger Like Us – T.I ft. Kanye West, Jay-Z & Lil Wayne

Bittersweet Electric Sky Touch (GlowTapes String Cheese Mash Up) – The Verve vs. MGMT & Justice vs. Kanye West & Lupe Fiasco

So, after a 10 day spring break students are back for round two. The NC sun is out along with the boat shoes and shades, the only thing missing is some ear candy. With Lupe Fiasco and Girltalk comming up May 1st, and Festivus following quickly on their tail May 9th, a need for a few jams to chill out to in the quads or party to are essential. As many are familiar with Asher Roth the American rapper from Morrisville, PA, some remixes have bleeped on the radar…enjoy

I Love Money (Adam1Time Remix) – Asher Roth and Lil Wayne ft. T-Pain

A Milli (Freestyle) – Asher Roth

Lark On My Go-Kart – Asher Roth

I Love College (Harlem Remix) – Asher Roth ft. Jim Jones
